BUDDHA'S BIRTHDAY AT THE RAMAKRISHNA-VIVEKANANDA CENTER OF
NEW YORK, SUNDAY, MAY 10, 2009
Buddha’s birthday is observed annually at
the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York with a Special
Sunday Service in the Chapel of the Center.
On Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM 220 persons gathered in the
Center’s Chapel to commemorate the auspicious,occasion. A
picture of Lord Buddha occupied a central place on the altar,
which was adorned with beautiful multi-colored flower
arrangements. Swami Yuktatmananda, the Spiritual Leader of the
Center conducted the service.
The Special Service began with the chanting of Vedic hymns and a
selection of Indian devotional songs by the choir of the Center.
Swami Yuktatmananda gave an inspiring talk on the life and
message of Buddha, with numerous references from the teachings
of Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda, who as a young man was
blessed with a vision of Buddha, extolled Buddha, for His great
heart and unbounded love for humanity. Following the Swami’s
talk, the choir presented several more devotional songs, both
Indian and Western. The service concluded with the serving of a
full-course luncheon to the entire congregation.
