Ideals and Activities: The Vedanta Center of St. Petersburg is a non-profit religious organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida. The Center bases its teachings on the system of Vedanta, especially as explained by Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886) and his disciple Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) as demonstrated in their lives. The Center looks to the Ramakrishna Order of India for its ideal. Vedanta teaches that every soul is potentially divine and that the goal of life is to manifest this divinity. Vedanta reveals the underlying harmony of all religions and points out that they are different approaches to one and the same Reality.
Interviews: Individual instruction and guidance are given by the Swami to those who earnestly wish to practice prayer and meditation. Interviews with the Swami should be arranged in advance.
Membership: Anyone who is interested in the teachings of Vedanta and has attended the services for some time is welcome to become a member of the Center upon the approval of the Swami. Inquiries regarding membership may be made to the Secretary. Contributions to the Vedanta Center of St. Petersburg are deductible for income tax purposes.
Library: The Center maintains a library of books on Vedanta and other philosophical and religious systems of the world. The library remains open briefly before and after the services and classes. The privilege of borrowing books is extended only to members.
Bookstall: Outstanding books on all religions are on sale in the bookstall, including books on Vedanta and on the lives and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. Devotional incense, candles, and pictures are also on sale. The bookstall is open before and after the services and classes. |
